Bineta is the eco-design project of Efoye Ma, a Togolese artisan studio active since 2020, known for custom bags and made-to-measure furniture. The Bineta concept is a 2-in-1 compact wallet that unfolds instantly into a shopping bag or gift bag, made entirely from upcycled materials: collected plastic water sachets, worn denim, and fabric offcuts recovered from secondhand markets.
Lomé alone generates over four million plastic bags a year, and with no recycling infrastructure in place, this waste clogs drains, causes flooding, and poses serious public health risks across West Africa. At the same time, everyday shoppers needed a practical, portable bag that did not add to the problem.
Bineta turns the waste stream into a product line. Plastic sachets, old jeans, and fabric scraps are collected and transformed into functional, beautifully crafted bags. The e-commerce platform lets customers discover the concept, understand the material story behind each piece, and order directly. Every purchase redirects waste away from the environment and into a usable object.
